We like to eat and cook tasty foods!

The best pizzas are made in Little Italy, New York.
The perfect place to go find out: What does the word "pizza" mean?
I visited every Pizzeria in the town and asked:

Amici Miei, what does the word "pizza" mean?

Their answer:

Food (really!)
Pinch (ouch!)
Pluck (ouch again!)
To pound or crush (brutal!)
Mouthful (where do they get these meanings?)
Tomato-based pie (yummy!)
Well I got my answers and summed it up. The word "pizza" means tomato-based pie food you can pinch, pluck, pound and crush to get a mouthful. Try it with this home-made vegetarian pizza recipe. Just make sure you don't hurt anyone.

This recipes can be served as dinner and appetizer. A Simple and quick recipe that will get you out of the kitchen in no time. This recipe can be done with children. I prepared this recipe with my nephew and he prepared both of the pizzas for dinner. Adults should supervise children while they are preparing the pizzas. While they are waiting for the pizza to cook, parents can use the time to chat with the children and teach them valuable information about nutrition.

Ciao Chef Coqui!

Saw your question and started thinking about the origin & evolution of pizza. (Many Chinese think it originated there -- think Green Onion Pancakes -- then traveled to Italy with Marco Polo. Other theories trace it through Greece and North Africa. And lots of folks are under the (mistaken) impression that pizza was invented here in America. (Nope. Not even in Hawaii!)

Cheers,
Rosina
